The company operates the Leiria Sanitary Landfill, which is designed for the safe disposal of non-recyclable urban waste. The landfill uses advanced environmental protection technologies, such as:
Impermeabilization: To prevent soil and groundwater contamination.
Leachate treatment: Managing liquids from decomposing organic waste to avoid environmental impact.
Gas capture systems: Collecting gases from organic waste decomposition for energy production, contributing to sustainability.
Additionally, Valorlis has established transfer stations in several municipalities, improving waste transport efficiency and reducing emissions. The company is committed to sustainability and continuous innovation, with efforts focused on energy recovery from waste and organic compost production for agricultural use.
In Valorlis visit, the students had a explanation of the techniques used to dispose the non-recyclable waste, focusing on the importance of making the right separation of the residues. Two technicians have guided the teachers and the students through the landfield, and presented a very special collaborator in the facilities, a small eagle that keeps the other birds away, avoiding that they eat trash and rotten food and be contaminated.
