SB TD Roots - family trees
07 mai 2025This interdisciplinary activity engaged students in exploring their personal and collective histories through the creation of genetic and cultural family trees. The project, titled Roots, aimed to deepen students' understanding of their origins from biological, historical, geographical, and psychological perspectives.
Students began by gathering information about their family backgrounds using interviews, documents, and online genealogical tools. They constructed visual representations of their family trees and applied the principles of scientific research methodology, including data collection, source verification, analysis, and synthesis.
Working in pairs or small groups, they exchanged findings, identified patterns, and reflected on the influence of historical and societal contexts on their family histories. These collaborative discussions helped develop analytical thinking, as students drew conclusions and supported their insights with evidence.
The activity fostered peer learning, strengthened research skills, and enhanced students' capacity for autonomous learning. It also allowed them to apply the acquired principles and methodologies to various other projects throughout the school year, contributing to a broader culture of inquiry-based learning.
