fter a break, where our hosts could taste Sicilian pastry, the activities were moved to the school gym for the lecture "the Mediterranean sea, cradle of people and cultures". Apart from the whole Erasmus group, at the conference were also invited about 100 students and teachers from other classes of our school and about 60 students from other high schools in Palermo.

An archaeologist, Prof. Caterina Greco, and former Director of Salinas Museum in Palermo, was invited to give a speech. She was introduced by our Vice head teacher welcoming speech, Prof. Alessia Termini, who, besides teaching Italian and history, is also an archaeologist and who explained the theme of the conference: the “cultural identity” of the Mediterranean. As a matter of fact, due to its peculiar geographical position that connects three continents, Asia, Europe and Africa, the Mediterranean Sea has always been at the centre of many events which have shaped the history of our planet and Sicily, has always occupied an important geographical and historical role within the great phenomena of migration/communication that have affected the ancient Mediterranean, like the birth in the past of trading bases, places of worship and settlements, around which stories of myth and legend have spread, giving life to the history of the peoples who have developed in these places right up to the present day. After the conference students were given the chance of playing a Kahoot quiz game to revise in a funny and involving way the acquired information about the history of the Mediterranean. Winning students were awarded a prize. Students learnt about Mediterranean culture; participants expressed increased respect and interest in cultural diversity and demonstrated greater awareness of the Mediterranean’s role in shaping global civilization through a post-conference quiz. Moreover, they practiced listening English
