FR25 HA Newspaper History
12 nov. 2025During the session, the teacher explains the different objectives of the session and the method to be followed to write a newspaper article. Students are told that they have about forty minutes to do their research and that during the last twenty minutes they will give an oral presentation of their articles. The students work in pairs with their pen pals to write two newspaper articles about two historical events (one event per nationality). The students are free to choose the format of their articles and can therefore choose to produce them digitally or on paper. Each pair can conduct research (online or elsewhere) on the historical events in order to obtain reliable and accurate information for their articles. The French students mainly write articles on the French Revolution of 1789, the imperial period under Napoleon, the 1889 World's Fair and the construction of the Eiffel Tower, or the reign of Louis XIV and the construction of the Palace of Versailles.
Italian students write various articles on Italian history, particularly on the period of ancient Rome (the Roman Empire, presentation of Julius Caesar) or on more contemporary events such as the history of Italian unification during the second half of the nineteenth century, presenting figures such as Garibaldi and Victor Emmanuel II. Serbian students write articles recounting the Balkan Wars or the founding of the Kingdom of Serbia in the early 20th century. Romanian students write articles on the war of independence against the Ottoman Empire in the late 19th century or the birth of Greater Romania after the end of World War I.
The students listened to articles about historical events that were pivotal moments in the history of each country represented. The main objective was therefore achieved, as the students learned about the history of France, Serbia, Romania, and Italy. Some students even discussed current social and political issues in the countries in question.
