The conference addressed the theme of how Sicilian culture is deeply imbued with Greek-Roman mythology and its archetypes. After a brief introduction to the main myths present on the island, the discussion moved on to a specific analysis of the myths depicted in the “metopes” to be viewed at the Salinas Museum the following day.

Particular attention was given to the myth of Medusa and its actualisation in feminist symbolism.​

After the lecture, the students were given a Kahoot quiz on the topics covered earlier.

As it usually happens, the Kahoot quiz was particularly successful and the students seemed to love it a lot as, during the game, enthusiasm was sky high.

The students showed considerable interest in the subject as a whole. Figures such as Hercules, Proserpina and Medusa stimulated general curiosity, as evidenced by numerous comments and requests for further information.

 

In particular, the behaviour of the gods, deeply permeated by very human feelings, fascinated the students and prompted reflection on how mythology is not simply a collection of “stories”, but rather a narrative that can offer explanations for existential and moral questions.
