During the workshop, a representative from ÄIO, Mariane Barrier  shared the start-up’s mission to produce sustainable alternatives to palm and coconut oil using precision fermentation. The presentation gave students a behind-the-scenes look at how food-tech innovation can reduce deforestation, waste, and carbon footprint.

Students learned how Äio uses food industry waste to produce sustainable fats and oils, offering a real-life example of circular economy in action.
The session helped students understand the environmental impact of traditional oils like palm oil.
It sparked interest in biotechnology and sustainable start-ups as potential career paths.
The Q&A allowed students to practise asking informed questions and connecting theory with real-world solutions.

It also showcased how Estonia contributes to the development of environmentally friendly technologies through entrepreneurship and science.
