A MUN (for Modelized United Nations) are simulations of UN conferences and procedures. It’s a “serious game” in which the are delegates of a country into a delegation. This is a role-play as UN delegates with negotiations, discussions, and lively debates.

ERASMUN was about that specific topic: HOW COULD THE UNITED NATIONS PROTECT UNESCO’S WORLD HERITAGE LANDMARKS FROM MASS TOURISM AND EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING ?

The activity has been made on a 3 hours and half session into an auditorium (screen, microphone).

-First we made a 30 minutes presentation of what is a MUN and on the very specific vocabulary and procedure of a MUN
-Then we had 1 hour of “Lobbying”. During this part, the students as delegated create a clause, a tangible solution to find a solution about that specific topic in accordance with the country’s position on that topic. The lobbying is the time where exchanges between the different delegates enable them to gain the signatures of other delegates in order to defend their clause.

The last 1 hour and half was the debates about some clauses proposed by countries. the delegates might present their clause to the rest of the assembly. During the open debate, the delegates can express their opinion regarding the clause submitted. The chairs invite some delegates who wish to defend their opinion. When the close debate is finished, the debate stops, and the house moves into the voting procedures.

-We saw many enthusiasm for this activity, despite the fact that many students never participated to a MUN before ERASMUN and a disparity in language skills or international knowledges. The students were really invested.
-The debates and the solutions proposed by the students were very specialised and adapted to the topic.
-The communication and debates between the delegations in English was high level (specific diplomatic vocabulary)
