The activity “Signs along the Road” was designed to help students become better acquainted with their surroundings and to participate more actively in nurturing and creating a culture of remembrance.

First, a lecture by Luka Tošković, author of the book “Stories about the Streets of My Neighborhood,” was delivered to students in the school library. On this occasion, students learned more about the history of the streets they pass every day, as well as interesting facts related to them.

After that, the students were divided into six groups, each tasked with choosing two streets in the school’s vicinity. Based on the presented book and other sources, they researched the history of the streets, gathered information about the person, event, or place after which each street was named, and reflected on the values the street names convey and the messages they communicate. The students were also required to describe the streets.

The next step was to create a new, creative street sign for each chosen street, symbolically representing both the significance of what the street was named after and its present-day meaning.

Finally, the students presented their boards to the class. The task of the other students was to interpret the symbols on the new street signs, connect them to the streets, and explain their opinions.
