FR CC World Cafe : Climate change in Dunkirk
03 mars 2025First, the mediator presented the ‘Climat Libé Tour’, during which some of them will present a summary of the workshop. This is a French festival that aims to bring the challenges of the energy transition as close as possible to the people, during which, through debates, round tables and workshops, journalists and experts discuss the solutions to be put in place to facilitate this transition with a stopover in Dunkirk to delve into the challenges of sustainable industrial renewal, as the entire region has been recognised for its work in recent years, particularly on the transition and transformation of the region, with carbon neutrality in its sights from 2050.He then looked back at COP28 and the commitments made there, in particular : Tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030, Increasing energy efficiency, Promoting sustainable mobility, Supporting just transition and gender equality, Protecting wetlands and biodiversity. Then he divided the students into 5 groups around 5 tables : from the 5 commitments made at COP28 to combat climate change, the students had to think about / find out more about what was already being done in Dunkirk to honour these commitments and then think about what more could be done. Each group thought for 30 minutes on the first table, then the groups rotated to improve each of the posters on the 5 topics (15 minutes per table). At the end, 5 pairs are appointed to present the class’s thoughts on each of the 5 topics, using the posters produced by the class during the workshop and a slide show they will produce to illustrate them.
The students learned about a French festival, the ‘Climat Libé Tour’, which explores the challenges of the ecological transition and makes a stopover in Dunkirk to explore the issues involved in sustainable industrial renovation. They experienced the creative process of the ‘World Café’, where participants debate an issue in small groups around tables, then change tables at regular intervals to cross-fertilise the conversations with ideas from previous rotations. Finally, they developed their knowledge of the issues at stake at the last COP and of Dunkirk's policy to combat climate change.
