PL25 EC The dark side of the fashion industry.

The students watched a film about the clothing industry, the scale of its development and its importance to the global economy. The film also showed the huge impact of this industry on the environment. Research and statistics were shown that showed how much material is used to produce clothing and what impact it has on the environment. The negative impact of buying and then throwing away clothing was shown. The film made us aware of the impact we ourselves have on the environment by deciding to buy new clothing every time or throwing old ones in the bin.

After watching the film, the students were divided into groups, in which they first answered the questions on the worksheet, consolidating the knowledge and information heard in the film. Then, in each group, a discussion was held on the threats that result from the huge development of the clothing industry. We talked about our influence, our decisions, and we also looked together for solutions and possible concrete proposals for actions to reduce the negative and harmful influence of us humans on the environment in the context of the clothing industry.

The discussion is moderated by a teacher who encourages students to share their opinions on the above mentioned points.

Students from all countries collaborate together to find the best possible solutions to support local sustainable development related to overconsumption of fast fashion and animal homelessness. All participants  improve their knowledge about fashion threats and become aware what steps can be undertaken in schools to prevent this phenomenon from spreading in their local communities. Taking part in a discussion about self-expression through outfits they realize how much they have in common and improve their speaking skills in English.
