The lecture introduced participants to the rich Roman cultural heritage of Belgrade through an engaging combination of academic presentation and practical orientation. Professor guided the participants through the historical and archaeological development of ancient Singidunum, the Roman predecessor of modern Belgrade.

The lecture covered key aspects of the Roman settlement, including:

The Legio IIII Flavia Felix military fort and its strategic importance.
The civilian settlement, with its public square, aqueduct, and Roman baths.
The Academic Plateau and necropolis of Singidunum.
The Kalemegdan fortress area, highlighting its continuous historical significance.

In addition to the historical and archaeological overview, participants were introduced to the network of archaeological and cultural institutions in Belgrade, such as the Faculty of Philosophy’s Department of Archaeology, the Belgrade City Museum, and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments. These institutions play a vital role in safeguarding, studying, and promoting Serbia’s ancient heritage, and in connecting it with broader European cultural identity.

The lecture emphasized how archaeological findings shape our understanding of European identity, urban continuity, and shared cultural heritage.
