RO TD FOLKLORE AND TRADITIONS

On December 1, 2025, The Romanian National Day, a group of 45 enthusiastic college students together with 3 of their teachers embarked on an educational journey to Maramureș, a region renowned for its deep-rooted Romanian traditions and folklore. The itinerary included several cultural landmarks: Moara lui Mecles, where they observed the traditional milling process and appreciated the ingenuity of rural craftsmanship; the Muzeul Oului (Egg Museum), which showcased the intricate art of decorating eggs, a cherished Romanian custom; and the Muzeul Țărăncii Române (Museum of the Romanian Peasant Woman), where students discovered the vital role women have played in preserving cultural heritage.Beyond the educational value, the trip provided students with an immersive opportunity to engage firsthand with Romanian customs. At Moara lui Mecles, they watched local artisans operate century-old machinery, learning how such technologies have been passed down through generations. The Egg Museum’s dazzling displays of hand-painted eggs sparked conversations about symbolism and the meanings behind various patterns and colors. At the Museum of the Romanian Peasant Woman, heartfelt stories illustrated the resilience and creativity of rural women, inspiring students to reflect on the importance of tradition in shaping identity.

The group also visited the famous Merry Cemetery (Cimitirul Vesel) in Săpânța, known for its colorful tombstones adorned with poetic and humorous epitaphs. Through these immersive experiences, students reflected deeply on the significance of Romanian folklore and traditions,  The journey not only broadened their horizons but also fostered a lasting respect for Romania’s vibrant cultural legacy.
