PL CC Adoption of homeless animals

The project began with conducting a survey among volunteers involved in the care of stray animals, identifying which foundation currently requires the most support. Since the local shelter was implementing other projects in the meantime, we decided to start a school adoption project in cooperation with a foundation that provides temporary homes for dogs and cats with health problems. After ensuring they receive proper veterinary care, the foundation looks for adoptive families for them. After receiving photos with descriptions of the animals, a group of graphic designers from our school prepared a few posters promoting the adoption of the pets that are under their care. The project team informed all the classes in the school about the new charitable initiative. Each class was assigned one puppy or kitten for adoption. The host of each class was appointed as the contact person with the project leaders, and their task was to monitor the search to find the best possible home for the given animal suited to its needs. The task of every single member of each class of our school community is to do one’s best to find the best possible owner for each pet by spreading information about the adoption project among family members, neighbours, friends and via social media sites. The adoption project is still in progress in our school.

Aims and skills targeted : 

To increase knowledge about  homeless animals’ needs 

•  To deepen empathy among students and  encourage them to undertake initiatives to help the ones in need.
•  To broaden  horizons about the work of governmental and voluntary organizations that aim at supporting homeless pets. 
•  To enhance collaborative work among students on a common solution to the problem
•   To promote organising similar events in other local schools

Results :   

Improving knowledge about local and governmental organizations fighting for and supporting  animals ‘rights

Broadening horizons about the steps that can be taken by an individual to contribute to the improvement of homeless animals’ situation locally

Deepening empathy among students and enhancing collaboration among all school community to support the ones in need by running or joining a voluntary project.
