LG - W4 - Welcome, presentation of the schools and icebreaking activities

Aims and skills targeted :

To present themselves to others, sharing individual taste or characteristics

To helped to create a comfortable atmosphere that encouraged communication between everyone

To help create a welcoming atmosphere that encourages everyone to chat with one another

First of all, the Erasmus+ coordinator introduced herself and welcomed everyone present at our school. After that, the coordinator called up the representatives from each partner country so that, together with their students, they could receive some welcome gifts and the programme for the week.

The students were then invited by their Portuguese teachers to take part in a brief icebreaker activity.

The first activity, called “Human map”, the task involved each student and their host standing in the position corresponding to their country of origin in relation to Portugal. In pairs (with their two nearest ‘neighbours’), pupils should share their name and an interesting fact about themselves and their town.

The second activity, called “Human interation”, in which the pupils stood in a circle; the first pupil held the end of the string and said their name, which country they were from, and mentioned an element of nature.They would throw the ball of wool to another pupil (who would hold the end), and that pupil would say their name and an element of nature related to the previous one. In the end, all the pupils were connected by a huge, complex web of wool that brought everyone together.

After this activity all the students and teachers were invited to a small break, were they were able to taste some portuguese food.
