Description :

The students travelled to Gniezno, one of the most historically significant cities in Poland and a place closely associated with the beginnings of the Polish state. The visit provided an opportunity to explore the origins of Polish statehood and learn more about the historical events that contributed to the formation of the country. During the trip, students discovered the city’s historical and cultural heritage and learned about its role in the early history of Poland. Particular attention was paid to the importance of Gniezno as a symbol of the country’s origins and the development of Polish national identity. Through direct contact with historical sites and heritage, students were encouraged to look beyond the dates and facts found in textbooks and to understand how the past influences the present. The visit also created an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of national identity, the value of historical memory and the responsibility of every citizen to know and respect their country’s heritage.

The activity combined learning outside the classroom with civic education, helping students establish a stronger connection between historical knowledge, their own identity and their role in society.

Results :

The educational trip broadened students’ knowledge of Polish history and increased their awareness of the origins of the Polish state and the significance of Gniezno in shaping the country’s national heritage. Students gained a deeper understanding of the relationship between the past and the present and recognised the importance of historical knowledge in building a sense of identity and belonging. The activity also encouraged them to reflect on their responsibilities as citizens and on the role they can play in preserving their country’s cultural and historical heritage.
