SB LG Pollution Vocabulary – A Multilingual Ecological Dictionary
25 avr. 2025As part of a cross-curricular and international project, students worked together to create a comprehensive multilingual ecological dictionary focused on terminology related to pollution. This project encouraged students to explore pollution from various scientific, linguistic, and cultural perspectives. Each participating group of students was tasked with gathering and documenting vocabulary and expressions associated with pollution from partner countries.
The data collected included not only scientific terms used to describe pollutants and environmental damage but also everyday language and culturally specific expressions that people use to talk about pollution and its effects on health, communities, and ecosystems. Students took care to ensure that the terms were both scientifically accurate and culturally relevant, reflecting the diverse ways pollution is understood and experienced around the world.
In addition to compiling the vocabulary, students selected significant environmental phenomena related to pollution, such as smog, deforestation, or water contamination, and represented them visually. They used illustrations, charts, and digital tools to create informative and engaging visual aids that helped to convey the impact of these issues. These visual representations were meant to enhance understanding and make the dictionary more accessible to a wide audience.
Once all the terms and visuals were gathered, they were compiled into a shared, illustrated ecological dictionary, which included equivalents for each term in the different languages of the participating countries. This collaborative process was not only an exercise in language acquisition and scientific research but also a valuable opportunity for intercultural exchange.
The activity emphasized both linguistic and scientific understanding, encouraging students to think critically about environmental issues in a global context.
