PL25 CVC CC Lesson at Warsaw zoo – workshop on biodiversity

During their visit at Warsaw Zoo, the Italian, Estonian and Polish students participated in a lesson on biodiverity. The lesture combined with a presentation of living organisms referred mostly to anthropods, but other species of animals were also mentioned. The instructors discussed the structure, characteristic feature, habitat and function of such creatures as snails, spiders, cockroaches, centipides, stick insects, but also lizards and snakes. A curious fact about the lesson was that the students were officially allowed to touch and even smell the animals as the value of sensory contact with a living creature (as long as it is safe) is always irreplaceable. The students were given an opportunity to listen to an interesting lecture and significantly broaden their vocabulary related to biodiversity and anthropods in particular. The lesson had also a high emotional value as in order to touch or hold the animals, the students were often forced to get out of their comfort zone. Both the students and their teachers enjoyed this activity very much as the lesson was very well prepared and designed by the zoo, All the exhibits were very interesting and the students could significantly increase their biological knowledge and learn some intriguing facts.
The lesson at Warsaw Zoo resulted in the increased knowledge on biodiversity and functioning of anthropods in the natural environment. The students learhed a lot of curious fun facts on a variety of species of animals, they could touch them and acquire some facts concerning their structure, characteristic features. The students also increased their English vocabulary on biodiversity and zoo life. The lesson turned out to be very successful, highly educational and fully accepted by the participants.
