PL25 CVC CC Meeting with the City Mayor

On Monday the Estonian, Italian and Polish students together with their teachers participated in a meeting with Mr Łukasz Jankowski, the Deputy Mayor of the City of Płock. The meeting took place in the Assembly Hall of the City Hall. The Mayor presented himself and the city briefly, he mentioned the most significant roles of the local authorities and then the Question and Answer Session started. The discussion mainly concerned the ecological issues connected with the city as well as the notion of the sustainable development. Both the students and teachers asked a variety of questions touching such issues as ecological education in Poland, the problem of air pollution due to the location of the Orlen company – the largest petrochemical works and oil refinery in this part of Europe, the issue of water quality in the Vistula River, the existence of ecological public transport and bicycle paths and ecological investments in the city. Subsequently, the students visited the historical interiors of the beautiful building of the City Hall during a guided tour supervised by an employee of the Promotion Department of the City Hall. Finally, the guests were gifted with a small souvenir promoting the city of Płock.
The meeting with Mr Łukasz Jankowski – the Deputy Mayor of the City of Płock resulted in the increased knowledge of the students on the ecological problems of the city and  the attempts of the sustainable development in the town. The students also became acquainted with the structure, role and competences of the local authorities of the city of Płock and were given an opportunity to actively participate in a Question and Answer session and learn how to lead a discussion with a representative of the local authorities.
