PL25 MSTE CC Eco-Płock Treasure Hunt

After the meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Płock the students participated in the Ecological Treasure Hunt. In front of the Town Hall they were given all the materials and instructions, they were divided into international eight-person groups (2 Italian, 2 Estonian and 4 Polish students) and they started the game. The Hunt took advantage of the Padlet application to post the answers as well as the pictures.The main objective of the Treasure Hunt was to identify places connected with ecology located in the city: local water works, hybrid cars or buses, waste segregation bins, the Vistula River water treatment plant, bicycle paths or public bus stations and the zoo. Their hunt included giving answers as well as taking and posting pictures. A critical-thinking task was also included as the students were obliged to come up with three advantages and disadvantages of starting zoos. There was also a zero waste challenge – a creative task in which the participants needed to make up five interesting ways of recycling certain objects, e.g. a glass jar, a plastic bottle or a pair of old jeans. Finally, to increase the visiting students’ general knowledge about the host city, they were supposed to develop research skills and find two interesting fun facts about Płock. The activity conducted on Day 1 gave the students an opportunity of better and faster integration.
The final product of the Ecological Treasure Hunt was a completed card with the students’ answers as well as the Padlet dedicated to this events, The students needed to take interesting pictures and post them in Padlet and answer the Treasure Hunt questions and provide solutions. They improved a variety of skills: critical thinking, creative thinking and research skills. It was also a wonderful opportunity to integrate the students of all three nationalities. The Treasure Hunt turned out to be an intriguing and successful activity.
