PL25 MSTE LG How to write and record a report – workshop with a journalist

In the school auditorium the students attended a meeting with Ms Anna Zołoteńko – a journalist of a local radio station– Radio Płock. The meeting was conducted entirely in English. First, the journalist introduced herself and presented the most important facts concerning her job. Then she concentrated on the task and explained to the students how to interview appropriate people for the report. She gave the students professional suggestions how to ask questions, how not to put too much pressure on the interviewee and how to encourage the speaker in order to facilitate the best answers. Then Ms Zołoteńko talked about the structure and qualities of a good oral report based on an interview, which is a typical feature of her everyday profession. Subsequently she moved to the written format and explained how to make it interesting and absorbing to the potential future readers. Then the students were asked about their experience with traditional and modern media and they talked about the most important sources of knowledge about the news. The element of critical thinking was introduced at the moment. The discussion between the students and the guest concentrated on the features of good journalism and essential elements and characteristics of a good written and oral report. The students were very active, they presented their opinions very openly.
The meeting with Ms Anna Zołoteńko – a representative of local media (RADIO PŁOCK) served as a preparation point to interview inhabitants of Płock and local students about the ecological situation in the city, attempts to facilitate sustainable development and find solutions to ecological problems. The students learned how to compose a successful report in an oral and written form for the local media. They were provided with some guidelines how to perform the profession of a journalism. The workshop turned out to be extremely useful for the participants.
