PL25 MC LG City tour to Warsaw

After a visit to the zoo, the students were given a guided tour around Warsaw – the Polish capital – prepared entirely by the Polish students, We managed to sightsee the most important landmarks in the city. The group stopped in front of each characteristic and significant point and listened to a brief introduction and presentation. The landmarks included: The Royal Castle, The Little Insurrectionist’s Monument, Presidential Palace, Warsaw University, The Monument of Warsaw Mermaid, The Palace of Culture and Science, Adam Mickiewicz Monument, Kazimierz Górski’s National Stadium, Barbacan, Sigismund’s Column and The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, The guided tour was conducted in English, which required some deep preparation on the part of the Polish students.  Our guests became acquainted with the rudiments of Warsaw history as well as some legends and myths of the city. The most significant stories were connected to Warsaw Uprising of 1944 and a total annihilation of the city by the German occupants and the subsequent proces of rebuilding the city,  During the tour the students took a lot of pictures of the most important places and landmarks and several group photos were taken as well. After the sightseeing tour the students and the teacher enjoyed a dinner together in one of the city’s shopping malls.
During the sightseeing tour around the city (its historical part in particular) the students were granted an opportunity of learning a lot of facts and figures about the city of Warsaw, its courages past and present, about its main cultural and historical landmarks. They also practised their communication skills in English, as the Polish students worked as guides, providing their presentations in English while the guest students were exposed to a listening comprehension activity. It was also a successful integration activity.
