CC Walk along the River Lis: collection of macroinvertebrates

As part of the congress activities, students participated in a field trip entitled “Walk along the River Lis: Collection of Macroinvertebrates”. The activity took place at a selected sampling site located along the course of the River Lis, between its source and its estuary.

During the field visit, students were introduced to the ecological characteristics of the river ecosystem and to the role of aquatic macroinvertebrates in assessing water quality. Under the guidance of the instructors, participants observed and applied the sampling methodologies previously demonstrated. They collected macroinvertebrate specimens using appropriate field equipment and procedures, ensuring compliance with established environmental monitoring protocols.

The activity provided students with an opportunity to engage in hands-on scientific work, enhancing their understanding of biodiversity assessment and freshwater ecosystem monitoring while promoting collaborative learning and environmental responsibility.

Results: Students acquired practical knowledge of macroinvertebrate sampling techniques and fieldwork procedures; improved their understanding of the relationship between aquatic biodiversity and water quality; developed scientific skills related to observation, sampling, identification, recording, and interpretation of environmental data; increased their awareness of the ecological value of river ecosystems and the need for their protection; strengthened their capacity for teamwork, problem-solving, and active participation in scientific activities.
