SB26 CC - The ABC of Sustainable Development

The activity “The Alphabet of Sustainable Development” was designed as a collaborative and interactive learning experience in which students worked in groups of ten to explore and systematize their knowledge about sustainability. Each group received a sheet containing all letters of the alphabet and was tasked with finding one word for each letter connected to sustainable development, as well as to their previous learning experiences and prior knowledge. Students were encouraged to use key concepts, values, actions, and real-life examples related to environmental protection, social responsibility, and sustainable practices.

Through discussion and cooperation, students jointly negotiated ideas, expanded their vocabulary, and reflected on the meaning of sustainability in everyday life. The competitive element, where the first correctly completed alphabet was declared the winner, additionally motivated engagement and active participation.

In the second phase of the activity, students used selected words and ideas from the alphabet exercise to create a mini awareness-raising video. Each group designed a short video (1–3 minutes) focused on promoting sustainable development and encouraging positive environmental and social action. Students were required to include a clear message, teamwork, creativity, and possible solutions or positive actions. They were free to use dialogue, acting, narration, posters, and music to creatively express their ideas, while ensuring that every group member participated.

The activity concluded with each group presenting a short slogan or key message aimed at raising awareness among peers and the wider community about the importance of sustainable living and collective responsibility.
